Tot Shabbat
Monthly we invite you and your family to join together for a special Shabbat service for our little ones.  It is designed to include simple prayers and songs appropriate for Shabbat and to share the spirit of being together.  The March Tot Shabbat will be held at 9 AM and conclude about 9:30 AM with an Oneg, a time to have cookies and juice and quiet activities, in the Youth Lounge.  Please join us for the March Tot Shabbat on Saturday, March 22nd  Thank you in advance to our parent volunteers for the Oneg: The Hungerford family.  If you are planning to attend please bring a nut free treat to share.

Movie Matinee & Sing Along
Looking for something to do with the kids when school is closed for Spring break?  Join us on Thursday morning at 10:30 AM for a movie matinee and sing a long of FROZEN.  We’ll be downstairs in the youth lounge at Oak Park Temple.  Cost is $5/per child with a maximum cost of $10 per family.  Adults must stay.  Snacks are included.  Hope to see you then!

Shabbat Kehillah
On Friday March 28thth , join Oak Park Temple for a “nosh” at 6 PM in the Rotunda followed by a Kabbalat Shabbat Service at 6:30 PM and you’ll be home in time for the kids to go to bed at 7:30 PM.  The Oak Park Temple joins together in the rotunda at 6 PM for social time prior to our 6:30 PM service.  At 6:30 PM, we welcome Shabbat with a musical service. The time of the service allows those with small children to join us following an early dinner at home, and those who have more scheduling flexibility to have a leisurely dinner with family or friends following the service.  Join Oak Park Temple in celebrating Shabbat with reflection and joyful communal singing!

Camp Registration Begins in March!!  Camp Bet Yeladim offers children ages 3 to 6 (including children who will have just finished Kindergarten when camp begins) an exciting and rewarding day camp experience. Sign up for one or more of our two week camp sessions:  Session Aleph: June 2nd  to June 13th; Session Bet: June 16th through June 27th; Session Gimmel: June 30 to July 11th; and Session Dalet: July 14th through July 25th.  Registration begins the week of March 3rd for Oak Park Temple members and the following week for GPS families who are not OPT members.  Space is limited!!

Oconomowoc, WI at Camp Olin-Sang-Ruby for “Jewish Humor: Sarcasm, Stories, and Shtick.”  Activities for all ages include singing, prayer, discussions, and lectures and lots of relaxing, laughs and food! Child care provided during adult learning activities!

Welcome to Gavin Tobias and his family. Gavin has joined us in the Lions classroom.

Pursuant to the requirements of Illinois law, Oak Park Temple will be posting concealed carry prohibited signs on the entrances to the building.

Glasser Preschool‘s its annual Passover Candy Sale has begun – packets were sent home with the kids this week. We are selling Bartons Kosher for Passover confections. A substantial percentage of the money from the orders sold goes directly to Glasser Preschool so it is essential that as many families as possible participate in this fundraising effort. Order forms will be sent home with your child next week. All orders are due by February 28th.

We ask everyone who attends to bring a small nut free treat to share (a dozen or so cookies or fruit) Please join us for our next Tot Shabbat on Friday, February 21st at 7 PM. Collaboration Symposium
Parents and educators of young children are
invited to attend the eleventh annual symposium sponsored by the Collaboration for Early Childhood Care and Education entitled “Play is Fundamental: Empowering Young Children through Active Exploration.” The Collaboration is a public/private partnership whose goal is to assure that all young children in our community have access to high quality, affordable early childhood care and education. It is happening on Saturday, February 22nd from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 PM at Percy Julian Middle School, 416 S. Ridgeland in Oak Park. Registration forms were sent home with your child in January - see Marci if you need a new one.

Oak Park Temple Creative Community welcomes you to 2nd Thursday - The Monthly Culture Salon. What’s 2nd Thursday?- 1/3 Talk Show with hosts Mark & Gina Bazer; 1/3 Open Mike, and 1/3 Schoomze.  February’s guest is Stephanie Podell, the singing chef.  So come check it out on February 13th from 7-9 PM!

You can order Scholastic Books on line or by paper order.  All books orders
must be turned in by Friday, February 14th.  Each dollar you spend at Scholastic Books allows us to earn points to purchase new books for our school. Please make checks payable to Scholastic Books.

Special Person Night 6:30 PM

Thursday , February 6th is Special Person Night.  Your child can invite their favorite special person (mom, dad, sibling, etc.) for this hour long evening visit from 6:30 - 7:30 PM in their preschool classrooms.  This is a chance for your child to share their school with someone important in their life.  Please limit your child to one (at most 2) special person so that the rooms do not become overcrowded and overwhelming for the children.  School will be closed the next day for a teacher institute day - so the kids will be able to sleep in a little in the morning.

Little Sister Tea Party & Havdallah

The OPT Sisterhood requests your attendance at a traditional ladies high tea.  This event is for ladies and “little ladies” alike.  Please come alone or bring your daughter, mother, grandmother or any woman in your life that would savor an afternoon of “girl talk” along with a spot of tea (or hot chocolate and lemonade) and an elegant tea service of savory sandwiches, sweet pastries, and scones.  The tea party is on Saturday January 25th at 3 PM at Oak Park Temple.  The tea will conclude with a brief Havdalah service.  Cost is $5 per person (free for OPT Sisterhood Little Sisters).  Please bring some new hair accessories for Hephizibah Children’s Association.  Their wish list includes small barrettes, ponytail holders, brushes and combs.  RSVP with the OPT office or to donnatmyers@yahoo.com.

GPS Open House

GPS will be having an open house for prospective preschool families on Monday, January 27th from 7 to 8 PM. Please invite your family and friends who are not already part of our wonderful preschool community to join us.  They will learn more about Glasser Preschool, talk with the Director, tour our classrooms, meet our wonderful teachers, speak with current preschool board members, and sign up for our 2014-2015 school year.

District 97 Closes at 11 AM  On Thursday (1/30) and Friday (1/31) the Oak Park District 97 public schools are only in session until 11 AM because of parent/teacher conferences.  Glasser Preschool will be in session for our normal classes on those days.  We want to make sure that those of you who have children enrolled both at Glasser and in District 97 schools are able to pick up your older children on time during those days.  If you have a child enrolled in our morning program –I will watch those children in the babysitting room until you arrive (hopefully by 11:15 AM).  If you have a child enrolled in our afternoon program who normally comes for lunch at 11 AM – you can drop them off in the babysitting room at 10:45 AM.  YOU MUST LET ME KNOW IN ADVANCE IF YOU NEED TO USE THIS SERVICE so I can make sure that we have adequate supervision.
